Anxiety & Neck Tension with Bisoma Acupuncture
Total years in practice: 20
Complaints: Chronic anxiety for 12 years accompanied by stiff neck, tiredness, fibromyalgic body ache, heart palpitation, spontaneous sweat, shortness of breath, blurred vision, dizziness, stomach knots, bloating, and constipation. Exhaustive examination did not show any problem. She took Xanax for 12 years as needed. Delivery 3 years ago had aggravated the symptoms.
Acupuncture: Left-side Yin horary points in Wood-Order of LR1, HT8, SP3, LU8, and KD10.
Treatment process: After the first treatment, the patient had a burst of energy, less shortness of breath, better focus, and spoke better, which lasted for 3 days. She had 11 sessions in 8 weeks. By this time, her symptoms were mostly gone, and she felt normal. She came back 7 months later with recurrence of the symptoms, which were again well-addressed with 3 sessions.
Discussion: This patient responded well probably from 2 reasons. One was that she was highly reactive to acupuncture. The other was her problems were caused by the body, not with recurrent thoughts, which can easily override the benefit of acupuncture.
